Scientists Collect Commercial Fish Data in Wind Energy Areas

NOAA Fisheries kicked off a three year study on commercial fish species in southern New England waters. The goal is to gather baseline data to assess how offshore wind development could potentially affect species such as Atlantic Cod. A glider is listening for sounds of fish spawning and whale migration as well as pings from tagged fish. Scientists will tag up to 100 spawning cod and the whale data will be used to inform the construction of South Fork Wind Farm.
