Texas Best Suited for Offshore Wind in the Gulf of Mexico

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and National Renewable Energy Laboratory released two studies looking at offshore wind potential in the Gulf of Mexico. The studies found that Texas, specifically near Port Arthur and south of Corpus Christi, is best suited for development. The Gulf possesses 15 percent of the nation’s gross offshore wind energy potential and 25 percent of the nation’s technical offshore wind energy potential. The study estimates that a single 600 megawatt wind farm would bring 4,470 jobs and $445 million in GDP during construction.
