Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean State Spotlight: Maryland

Black sea bass are the single most landed recreational fish caught in Maryland’s nearshore waters as well as within the Maryland Wind Energy Area. A professor from the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and his students tagged and studied black sea bass during the summer of 2016-2019. They found that black sea bass make for a good model species to determine impacts from offshore wind farms since the fish show site fidelity around shipwrecks and other structures. They also seem to alter vertical activity based on external stressors.
