First Offshore Wind Turbine Installed in Federal Waters
A 6-Megawatt wind turbine was installed on May 26, 2020, 27 miles off the coast of Virginia in federal waters. This is the first of two turbines that will make up the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind pilot project being developed by Ørsted and Dominion Energy. The project will eventually become a 2.64-gigawatt project with construction expected to begin in 2024.
