Coast Guard Revises Guidance Affecting Offshore Wind

For the first time in more than a decade, the Coast Guard has revised its guidelines for reviewing the effects of offshore wind farms on commercial shipping. Specifically, any projects that could have significant impacts on navigation safety, ship traffic routes, and the Coast Guard’s ability to respond to at-sea emergencies. While the Coast Guard believes that offshore wind is a viable energy source, it wants to make sure there are no negative impacts due to the size, location, and configuration of wind farms.
